Cardiac Structure - Interatrial Atrium

Lipomatous atrial septumThis coronal section of the atria shows that the interatrial septum has abundant adipose tissue accumulation in the prominent areas forming the limbus of the fossa ovalis.

Lipomatous hypertrophyIn this close up the interatrial septum is shown . This view corresponds to a more anterior coronal section of the interventricular septum. The muscular component is replaced by adipose tissue. This is consistent with lipomatous hypertrophy. However in some instance the lipomatous hypertrophy clearly resembles a tumor.
