Normal Pericardial Anatomy - Diaphragmatic Ligament

Anterior-cephalad view of the heart and pericardial sac. The anterior portion of the pericardial sac has been cut to reveal the heart in situ. The pericardiophrenic ligament is clearly seen anchoring the base of the pericardial sac to the surface of the diaphragm where these two structures make contact. The insertion of the pericardial fibrosa around the great vessels is marked by the white arrowheads. The surface of the heart is glistening due to the presence of a moist surface visceral pericardium (serosa) which cover all the intrapericardial st.ructures including the ventricles, atria and the roots of the great vessels. SVC = Superior vena cava.
