Mitral Valve Prolapse (III)

Mitral Valve Prolapse 3Microscopic examination shows expansion of the spongiosa and pallor of the fibrosa. Both of these changes are secondary to infiltration by glycosaminoglycans (GAG's). This infiltration also involves the chordae tendineae, which weakens the chordae and results in irregular thickening and elongation of the chordae.
